News Alert: Pentagon says allied strike took out the ‘heart’ of Syria’s chemical weapons program but Assad retains ‘residual’ capability

A senior Pentagon official, providing an assessment of the joint U.S., British and French missile strike Friday on three alleged chemical sites in Syria, said the assault took out the "heart" of President Bashar al-Assad's chemical weapons program. But Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters at the Pentagon that the Syrian government retained a "residual" chemical capability after the attack. The Trump administration is warning that it could strike Syria again if it continues to employ chemical weapons on civilians.
