Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, twice called Gen. Li Zuocheng to reassure him that then-President Donald Trump had no plans to attack China in the finals months of his administration. Milley told a Senate panel Tuesday that on the first call he acted at the direction of Defense Secretary Mark Esper. On the second call, he said that 11 people attended, and Milley said that he later informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. |
