The Japanese-owned Ever Given ran aground Tuesday, shutting down the critical maritime link from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean that carries about 13 percent of world trade. Hundreds of ships were forced to wait for the 120-mile canal to be cleared or take the long detour around the southern tip of Africa. Dredging crews, tug fleets and salvage experts from around the world joined in the round-the-clock effort to free the ship. |
