The country's death toll hit 3,405 as of Thursday, an increase of 427 compared to Wednesday, according to Italy's Civil Protection Department. Italy has been averaging more than 350 deaths a day since March 15, according to World Health Organization data, as COVID-19 has ravaged its northern regions.
