Today, the marketing landscape is more tricky than ever. Consumers are more demanding than ever. And maximizing your marketing progress is harder than ever.
So what can help you break through all these obstacles? The spoiler: sponsored & guest articles can. But first things first.
Nielsen's latest Global Trust in Advertising Report shows that 66% of consumers believe editorial content, and only 42% now believe display ads. Additionally, 70% of website users admit that they'd learn about companies' products through sponsored & guest content rather than through traditional advertising.
Knowing this, let's have a look at the top six marketing objectives for 2020:
41% Gain new customers 28% Boost of brand-awareness 13% Retain existing customers 8% Reduce churn 6% Beat online rivals 5% Stimulate brand advocacy

Former Vice President Joe Biden publicly committed to picking a woman as his running mate. He also pledged to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.
"If I'm elected president, my Cabinet, my administration will look like the country and I commit that I will, in fact, appoint a woman to be vice president," Biden said. "There are a number of women qualified to be president tomorrow."

Around a month ago I had an idea in my head: a voronoi grid modified to have rounded cells that change in size. I made an attempt here for single cells changing size. The next step was to merge cells together, as I had done on this project. I decided that the way to demo this would be to simulate some kind of belief/cultural systems that spread over time across a map. I tried this here.
It didn't go well.
What happened? I think the problem was that I had three unknown elements in this project:
Simulation with the simplest rendering code I could get away with. Figure out what simulation rules are interesting and cool.
Rendering isolines on a triangle mesh.
Rendering curved isolines on a triangle mesh, using Bezier curves.
In trying to figure out all three at once, I didn't do a good job on them. I should have instead focused on one at a time. I ended up succeeding with #2 when I learned about and implemented the Meandering Triangles algorithm, and also built a little interactive visualization that helped me understand how the algorithm works. I failed with #1, having tried several algorithms but not finding one that I liked. I realized towards the end of the week that #1 was a red herring; I didn't need a simulation at all, as I really just wanted curved regions. I also failed at #3, having tried some experiments but never finding what I wanted, and also rejecting Chaikin Curves for reasons I can't remember. Since I really wanted the curved variable sized regions, I should have spent more time on #3 and less on #1. I ran out of time on this project so I'll leave #1 and #3 for another day.

Thousands of Canadians abroad are now returning home, some doing so on the advice of the government, which said this weekend that people ought to return now or risk getting stuck as international flights begin to be cancelled and borders closed by countries seeking to inoculate themselves from further infection.
Most recreational spaces in the province, including movie theatres, arcades, waterparks, ski hills, bars and gyms will be closed, though essential services will stay open. Restaurants will be allowed to operate but patrons must be seated with a table between them.
The idea of social distancing is to separate everyone enough so that the chain of infectivity is broken. Right now, we don’t have any vaccine or antiviral medication to treat COVID-19 if people do get the disease. So if you want to do your part to slow the spread of the coronavirus, you might be wondering what is and isn’t safe to do. Here’s a look at how careful you really need to be and what plans you should cancel.

The Federal Reserve on Sunday announced it is slashing interest rates to zero and buying billions of dollars in bonds, part of a sweeping emergency effort to breathe life into the faltering economy as the country hunkers down over the coronavirus.
Ahead of its scheduled policy-setting meeting Wednesday, the central bank said it expects to keep rates at zero "until it is confident that the economy has weathered recent events and is on track to achieve its maximum employment and price stability goals.
"The Fed said it will increase its holdings of U.S. government bonds by at least $500 billion and its holdings of agency mortgage-backed securities by at least $200 billion, moves that will lower the cost of longer-term debt and support the housing market, much like it did during and after the 2008 financial crisis.

In one week, coronavirus brought the U.S. from complacency to panic. Many of us are suddenly working from home in the hopes of curbing the spread of Covid-19: staggering our shifts, adjusting our commutes, adapting to telecommuting alongside a spouse who is also at home (and possibly in tandem with caring for children whose schools have closed). Wall Street's history-making bull market crashed. President Donald Trump addressed the nation twice about his administration's response, with less-than-reassuring results. Travel and tourism have come to a near-halt, threatening the livelihoods of countless workers. It's a new normal — at least a temporary, uncertain one. So be prepared, take measures to stay safe, and stay updated with Bloomberg Opinion's careful, informed analysis, because the story has only just begun. Brace yourselves.
This is the Theme of the Week edition of Bloomberg Opinion Today, a roundup of our top commentary published every Sunday.
Before it's here, it's on the Bloomberg Terminal. Find out more about how the Terminal delivers information and analysis that financial professionals can't find anywhere else. Learn more.
