World Alert: Mexico says more than 60,000 have been ‘disappeared’ amid drug war, acknowledging crisis is far worse than previously reported

Most of the victims disappeared since an all-out "war on drugs" was launched in 2006. The new total is more than 50 percent higher than the last estimate, issued in 2018. Organized-crime groups are suspected in the majority of cases, but corrupt police and politicians are thought to have been complicit, too.
