News Alert: U.S.-allied Kurds strike deal to bring Assad's troops back into Kurdish areas, dimming prospect of further U.S. presence in Syria

Forces loyal to the Russian- and Iranian-backed Syrian government will return to areas Kurds have controlled for the past seven years, alongside U.S. troops for much of that time. The announcement Sunday night of the deal between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the government of President Bashar al-Assad further undermined the prospect of any continued U.S. presence in the country.
