News Alert: Benjamin Netanyahu appears on course for fifth term as right-wing bloc wins more seats in Israeli elections

Netanyahu's Likud party and Blue and White — headed by his main rival, former military chief of staff Benny Gantz — were virtually neck and neck in overall votes and on track to secure the same number of seats in parliament, the preliminary tally from the country's Central Elections Committee showed after 97 percent of votes were counted. Both parties were set to win 35 seats in the Knesset, but the results gave Netanyahu the best chance at forming a coalition government.
