Long used a .45-caliber handgun that was bought legally, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said. Long opened fire late Wednesday during "college night" at Borderline Bar & Grill, a country-western dance bar in Thousand Oaks, which is about 40 miles west of Los Angeles. He killed 12 people, including a sheriff's sergeant, and Long also died in the rampage. Police believe he killed himself. Hundreds of people fled the bar in terror, including some who used bar stools to break windows and escape.
