| I was impressed Posted: 20 Oct 2018 06:07 AM PDT The following is a message from one of our advertisers. This message does not represent the opinion of The Washington Times. | She's exactly the type of tough-as-nails leadership we need in the Senate, but her conservative reputation in Congress has placed her at the top of Democrats' hit list, Friend,
The United States' first female fighter pilot to fly in combat is running for the open Arizona Senate seat against Chuck Schumer's hand-picked candidate, a self-proclaimed 'Prada-socialist.' It's the seat that will likely determine the Senate majority — and she needs our help to win.
I'm proud to support Martha McSally for U.S. Senate... are you friend?
Martha is a remarkable woman and exactly the type of tough-as-nails leadership we need in the United States Senate. But her conservative reputation in Congress has placed her at the top of Democrats' hit list, and motivating wealthy liberals like George Soros and Tom Steyer to pour millions into Arizona to destroy her.
Friend, we cannot let the Democrats buy this seat, and with it control of the Senate. We've got to come together and defend Martha against the Democratic Machine and dark money attacks.
Will you stand with me and support Martha with an immediate contribution to her Senate campaign?
Martha McSally will be an unwavering advocate for our America First agenda. I know this because Martha has spent her career fighting for Americans. She's deployed overseas and faced terrorists in combat. Martha understands the true price of freedom better than most — something liberals seem to forget, or simply ignore.
That's why Martha is working alongside me to build our wall and secure our borders. Like me, she's committed to closing the deadly loopholes that have allowed dangerous criminal organizations like MS-13 to flood our borders and threaten our safety.
Friend, I need conservative allies like Martha McSally by my side this November to protect our Senate majority so we can continue to put America First and extremism last.
I hope I can count on you today to stand with me and help Martha win.
Sincerely, Donald J. Trump President of the United States P.S. Remember friend, this race is much bigger than Arizona. Your immediate contribution is not only supporting Martha McSally for Senate, it's deciding who controls the Senate.

| Khashoggi damage control and Brazilian insults: Weekend Reads Posted: 20 Oct 2018 05:16 AM PDT Balance of Power | | From | | | | | Attempts at damage control over the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, finally confirmed by Saudi Arabia, have kicked into high gear both in the kingdom and Washington. Suspicion that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had knowledge of the Washington Post columnist's death is putting a spotlight on the alliance between the U.S. and one of its most important Mideast allies. With the U.S. midterms less than three weeks away, the scandal is competing for headlines with a host of other issues, ranging from how Trump might be undermining Republican candidates' efforts to capitalize on the booming economy to Democrats' hope of mobilizing minorities to take control of Congress. A lot more is going on too, with Poland's prime minister facing the toughest challenge in his short political career and Brazilians hurling invective against one another before this month's presidential runoff. We hope you enjoy reading more about these and our other best stories from the past seven days in this edition of Weekend Reads. - Michael Winfrey | | | U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he expects Turkish and Saudi investigations to reveal a "complete picture" of what happened to Khashoggi. Trump praised the Saudi response, but Republican and Democratic lawmakers have rejected Riyadh's account. Donna Abu-Nasr tells how the journalist looked beyond the carefully crafted image of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as a reformer bringing his kingdom into the 21st century. Instead, he saw an autocratic leader adding to the oppression of the Arab world, and still believed, until the end, that freedom of expression could have an impact.
Democrats Pin Their Midterm Hopes on Registering New Voters Stacey Abrams is trying to become the first black woman governor in U.S. history. Margaret Newkirk explains how her chances will depend largely on whether she can convince minorities to vote on Nov. 6 and fulfill a demographics-as-Democratic-destiny doctrine that she's been preaching for years.
Life as Rich Banker With Careless Mouth Plagues Poland's Premier Mateusz Morawiecki faces his toughest political test in tomorrow's regional vote as he tries to transform Poland into Europe's version of Trump's America. But Marek Strzelecki and Wojciech Moskwa report how the prime minister is under fire for recordings from his time as a bank executive where he complained about having to fawn over Jews and foreigners to get their money.
Venezuelan Meltdown Creates a Nation of Desperate Capitalists Hyperinflation and scarcity have set the Bolivarian revolution's socialist heart pulsing with entrepreneurship. Patricia Laya explores how desperate Venezuelans are scratching out livings with ventures from refurbishing burnt-out lightbulbs to digging home water wells and bartering bananas for haircuts to transporting commuters in animal-cargo trucks. China Is Forced to Reconsider Its Route Into Eastern Europe China's efforts to make inroads in eastern Europe are being hindered by what nations see as failed financial promises and too many strings attached to investments. Alan Crawford and Peter Martin explain how a framework meant to deepen China's footprint in the European Union's east is struggling as members seek more cash and want it in the form of gifts rather than loans.
Commie! Nazi! Slurs and Taunts Fly on Eve of Brazilian Election Who you vote for is an explosive question in today's Brazil. As Julia Leite writes, if your answer is former Army Captain Jair Bolsonaro, some will brand you a "fascist." If it's Workers' Party candidate Fernando Haddad, you might be seen a "communist." And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the ugly, and at times absurd, insults being thrown around before this month's presidential runoff.
Fear Stalks Township Streets of South Africa Murder Capital Nyanga is South Africa's undisputed murder capital and one of the world's most dangerous places outside a war zone. That it's a suburb of Cape Town may surprise the millions of tourists who flock each year to its beaches and vineyards. But as Michael Cohen and Paul Vecchiatto report, stark inequality has bred what one researcher describes as "a real sense of frustration and rage."
Bye-Bye $1 Yoga Pants From China as Trump Nixes Postal Discount The latest casualty of President Donald Trump's trade war? One-dollar yoga pants. Trump's order that the U.S. Postal Service withdraw from an obscure 192-nation postal treaty threatens to hit American shoppers who have grown used to bargains on online retailers.
And finally … Billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson dominate the emerging industry of commercial spaceflight, but they've got a new competitor in the race to become a cheaper alternative to NASA. Chinese President Xi Jinping's loosening of his government's monopoly on space launches is fueling the formation of small domestic companies with ambitions to challenge Musk's SpaceX, Bezos' Blue Origin, and Branson's Virgin Galactic. | Warning signs in the housing market: Weekend Edition Posted: 20 Oct 2018 05:02 AM PDT Bloomberg Opinion Today Despite a robust U.S. economy, at least as measured by gross domestic product, real home price growth is locked in a cyclical downturn. If that's not bad enough, it will likely get worse based on the same approach and factors that correctly flagged the housing bust — in real time — in early 2006. Home prices are highly cyclical and, as everyone discovered from the last recession, their movements can have material consequences for the broader economy. Yet, according to the minutes of the Federal Reserve's Aug. 1 monetary policy meeting, policy makers are only starting to recognize the "possibility" of a significant weakening in the housing sector as a "downside risk." Our research suggests that real home price growth has already entered a cyclical downturn that is likely to intensify. Data this week is forecast to show a drop in housing starts and existing home sales (editor's note – they did). Part of the reason for the worsening outlook in home prices is the plunge in housing affordability, which is generally a function of the ability of a family with median earnings to buy a home at the median price. This metric — the National Association of Realtor's Housing Affordability Index — recently dropped to a 10-year low, partly as a consequence of rising mortgage rates. But it's not just about higher borrowing costs. Read the whole thing.
