More than 1.5 million people evacuated as Hurricane Florence aims at Carolinas
States and counties from Maryland to Georgia are bracing for the impact of what forecasters warned could be a "life-threatening storm surge" along the coast, and "freshwater flooding from a prolonged and exceptionally heavy rainfall" in areas much further inland.
