CIA nominee sought to withdraw after scrutiny over her role in controversial interrogations
Senior White House aides, including press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, rushed to CIA headquarters late Friday afternoon after Gina Haspel had earlier indicated she was interested in stepping aside if it avoided the spectacle of a brutal confirmation this week, officials said.
