World Alert: In a blow to the European Union, Hungary’s strongman prime minister reelected with right-wing majority

Viktor Orban and his right-wing Fidesz party soared to victory in Hungary's election, claiming 133 of 199 parliamentary seats, based on 88.6 percent of the votes counted. The two-thirds majority will permit further overhauls to the country's democratic constitution as critics fear government reprisals and a heightened assault on the rule of law.
