World Alert: Suicide car bomb explodes in central Kabul, killing 17 and wounding more than 100, officials say

The explosion destroyed cars and shattered windows of nearby buildings and homes. A thick plume of smoke rose above the site of the attack, near a police checkpoint leading to the former building of the Interior Ministry and a hospital. The road also leads to the embassies of Indonesia and Sweden, and to the popular Chicken Street, an area where foreigners working in Afghanistan go to buy antiques and carpets. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Associated Press.
