To address these questions and share their ongoing work on longer studies about these matters, The Washington Institute is pleased to host a Policy Forum discussion with four of its experts: Mehdi Khalaji, the Institute's Libitzky Family Fellow, who is preparing a study about Sunni discontent in Mashhad, where the protests began. (He will participate via video teleconference.) Patrick Clawson, the Institute's Morningstar Senior Fellow and director of research, who is analyzing the sources of Iran's poor economic performance relative to what its people expect. Michael Eisenstadt, the Institute's Kahn Fellow and director of its Military and Security Studies Program, who has done much work on how the regime uses its security services. Hanin Ghaddar, the Institute's Friedmann Visiting Fellow, who is finishing a study about Lebanese Shia discontent with Hezbollah. The discussion will be moderated by Michael Singh, the Institute's Lane-Swig Senior Fellow and managing director, who has written much about U.S. policy options in the face of Iranian crises. The event will also be broadcast live on C-SPAN. |
