Fan-Made "Fire and Fury" Covers are all the Rage: Artist weighs in with his own version

Fire at Trump Tower: Eric Trump said it was an electrical fire on the roof

What the White House is Talking About:
President Trump today heads south, first to Nashville for remarks at the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention, and then to Atlanta to watch Alabama play Georgia.

What the White House Press Corps is Talking About:
What it would be like to cover an Oprah Winfrey presidency, tbh.

Weekend Analysis of Trump: Watches TV, Doesn't Work a Lot:
Literally that was the takeaway if you did a cursory glance at the news, as I did, over the weekend. It's why everyone this morning was making "Executive Time" jokes at your office. Axios reported details of the President's schedule, which involved lots of time for television and calling people.
Sarah Sanders responded to the story, stating, "The time in the morning is a mix of residence time and Oval Office time, but he always has calls with staff, Hill members, Cabinet members and foreign leaders during this time. The President is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen and puts in long hours and long days nearly every day of the week all year long. It has been noted by reporters many times that they wish he would slow down because they sometimes have trouble keeping up with him."

Mental Health:
All that talk too this weekend -- which mainly happened because Trump took it upon himself to again prolong the narrative by tweeting a couple of real humdingers. Meanwhile, the President's first actual presidential physical is Friday at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Pence Middle East Trip Announced:
Vice President Mike Pence will visit Egypt, Jordan and Israel on a swing through the Middle East, departing Washington on January 19 -- one month after he was originally scheduled to take the trip.
Oprah Frenzy Reaches Frenzy:
I was blown away by her Golden Globes speech. I thought it articulated and communicated everything people have been trying to say about this moment in time but haven't quite managed to consolidate with clarity. I personally think kids should read it in school as part of their curriculum -- like, it's that good. Here's my gripe: we're such wonk nerds that immediately, IMMEDIATELY, everyone started talking about Oprah being president and running in 2020. I don't have a problem with her running if she feels like it -- do you, Oprah? -- but I do have a problem with all of a sudden making the content and importance of what she said secondary to the campaign predictions. Why has the story become, "Will she run?" instead of, "Wow, what a woman, what a speech?"
Here's the full transcript, by the way. I'd encourage you to find some time to let it sink in.

Today In 'You Can't Make It Up':
In 1999, Donald Trump told Larry King in an interview that his first choice for a running mate would be Oprah. So there's that.

Guys, Is Hugh Jackman OK?:
My actual favorite part of the Golden Globes telecast, not counting Oprah's speech, was Hugh Jackman's face watching James Franco give his super-rambling best actor acceptance speech, which he read from his phone.

Sigh.:
Someone at Topshop thought it would be a good idea to sell these $90 jeans.

Congratulations, Samantha Barry!:
CNN's loss is Glamour magazine's gain. Today news broke that Barry, who has been our executive producer for social and emerging media, will be the glossy's new editor in chief, replacing Cindi Leive, who stepped aside in September. I dig that magazines are catching on to women in the digital realm, who view media and audiences as existing online, and that they're reachable via so many other avenues than just through pages.

Golden Globes Best-Dressed:
I actually liked the all-black looks on the carpet last night. I think most of the women nailed it, and many of the men looked amazing, too. My personal favorites were Saoirse Ronan in Versace, that little bit of silver shimmer was perfect; Mandy Moore in Rosie Assoulin, the pop of color with the red sash was a great note, and pockets! -- and Zoe Kravitz, whose emerald earrings set in black jade were hands-down my favorite jewels. Also, not really sure why she was there, but since I love a "red carpet dress" for a red carpet, I also really liked Kendall Jenner in her dramatic Giambattista Valli number.

What Washington is Talking About:
Both the House and Senate are in session today, and they have two weeks before a possible government shutdown. Dems say they want a DACA deal, and President Trump said he's game, as long as he gets The Wall.

What America is Talking About:
Oprah's acceptance speech Sunday at the Golden Globes for the Cecil B. DeMille Award where she said, "a new day is on the horizon," and speculating what kind of presidential candidate she would be.

Trump's Demands for The Wall:
He wants a $33 billion package for border security, $18 billion of which would be earmarked for The Wall specifically, according to a Customs and Border Protection document obtained by CNN. The Wall would include 316 new miles of barrier and 407 miles of replacement and secondary barriers.

You Get a Copy of "Fire and Fury" and You Get a Copy:
Michael Wolff's book was sold out at bookstores across Washington this weekend, but fear not, members of Congress, someone's already bought you a copy. Dem mega donor Tom Steyer, whose Need To Impeach campaign ads are currently running on television, bought 535 copies for everyone. He told San Francisco's KQED:

"Judging by the excerpts, we went and bought 535 copies, and we're going to get citizen volunteers to deliver them to the office of every Congress person and senator."

Steyer also said today he'll spend $30 million to help Dems take back the House in 2018.

Wolff Sighting:
I spotted Michael Wolff Saturday at Union Station, arriving in Washington for his Sunday interview on "Meet the Press." He signed some autographs, there was a paparazzo who trailed him through the building, and I asked him if he had any response to Trump's latest tweets about him, but he kept mum.

Wolff told MTP host Chuck Todd that talk of the 25th Amendment, which would allow Trump's Cabinet to remove him from office, is "alive every day in the White House" and that he went into the reporting process for the book "with absolutely no agenda whatsoever." Wolff will be on CNN tonight with Don Lemon.

Fan-Made "Fire and Fury" Covers are all the Rage:
Just remember, COVER/LINE did it first. Artist Edel Rodriguez, whose work you may be familiar with from his Time magazine covers, did his own fiery cover for the book:

Steve Bannon Responds to "Fire and Fury" Furor:
In a statement to the New York Times, Bannon, who is quoted in "Fire and Fury" as saying Donald Trump Jr.'s Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer was "treasonous," said actually he was really talking about Paul Manafort, and DJTJ is "a patriot and a good man." Bannon said:

"My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr."

Fire (but Apparently no Fury) at Trump Tower:
A fire broke out this morning at Trump Tower in New York. Eric Trump tweeted that it was a "small electrical fire in a cooling tower on the roof" and that NYFD responded "within minutes."

Justice for Tiffany:
If politics doesn't already feel tabloidy enough for you, TMZ followed around a first daughter in Los Angeles Friday. Tiffany Trump was asked by a paparazzo about "Fire and Fury" and her dad's love of McDonald's.

Street Art Sighting:
Street artist Lushsux did a mural of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai saying "Gucci Gang." Pai was scheduled to speak at CES this week, but plans were scrapped per Recode because of death threats that have escalated after the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality rules.
